arrivederci, au revoir

Today my mom had surgery for breast cancer. I sat in school, took a pre-calculous test (which I think I aced!!), and waited for my dad to call and tell me how my mom was. I hated it. She's laying on the couch now and I hate seeing her sick and defeated like this. But I know she will be ok. She always is. As long as her mother stops calling and crying on the phone for no reason, my mom will be fine.

Anyways, I guess this is a perfect time to explain in more detail what I am planning to do. As of today I have 150 weeks (approximately 3 years) to complete a list of 150 crazy, outrageous, and amazing activities. I still haven't written the list...I am in two AP classes, have a GirlsState interview coming up, and have SAT's next Saturday; I've been kind of busy. This is the perfect time to start writing down my list though. It has been floating around my head for the past 3-4 years and it's finally going to be put in ink...well, cyber ink...for me to complete. It's kind of exciting :]

I can't start it right now, I have a chemistry lab to write. But do not worry my annonymous followers (I have none by the way...which is absolutely ok. less people to see me fail), I WILL have a list soon.

I would also like to quickly explain the name of my last post. I have always wanted to learn Gaelic because I am Irish and I think it is absolutely the prettiest language I have ever heard. "piolatach" is Irish for "pilot" and a pilot is the first episode of a movie series, for you losers out there who don't watch TV :P Since it was my first blog and post, EVER, I thought it an appropriate name.

Until I have the time and guts to write down this infamous list, arrivederci!

píolótach

"You're alive. Do Something." Barbara Hall, A Summons to New Orleans

I have never written a blog before. Until today, I have made fun of bloggers. I could never understand how someone can waste away their days sitting at a computer typing. Furthermore, I could never understand why people would want to read what they write. I don't follow blogs, I don't have any blogger friends, and I've never read a blog. The closest I have come to reading a blog, or even seeing one, was when I watched Julie and Julia with my family (very good movie by the way, I recommend it). Well, just because I have a blog now doesn't mean that I am going to go out and start following every blogger on this site so I apologize if this blog is a little off kilter with you regular readings. If you don't like it, don't read it.

I am writing this mainly for myself anyways. I won't be checking every 5 minutes on my blackberry to see if I have followers. I don't even have a blackberry, I have a Juke. It was free and acted as an MP3 player and cell phone...killing 2 birds with one stone! I hate that saying, why would anyone want to kill a bird? Much less, 2 birds? Anyways, I don't care if you read this. If you want to comment, feel free (can you comment on a blog??).

I should start with explaining why I finally got a blog. But before that, I will tell you a little about who I am (if you care, which you probably don't, in which case skip this next paragraph). My name is Becky and I am 17. I'm a junior at a public highschool, I live in a rural area of New Jersey, and I am the baby of my family. I hope beyond hope that no one in my family finds this blog...I will be mocked and made fun of more than usual. About me: I love music (classical, classic rock, ska, indie, trance...) and I play PERCUSSION meaning all drums AND mallets AND toys, so I am not just a drummer. I'm not exceptionally good at any of it, but I'm 2nd chair at my school and I hate it when people make stupid drummer jokes at me. I don't care how many drummers it takes to screw in a lightbulb! Apart from music, I also like some sports. I love frisbee and volleyball, and I used to play on my schools basketball team until I realized that I hated teenage girls. Now, I can't tell you whether the Jets play baseball or football, but I do watch the Olympics and enjoy some good competition with my friends once in awhile.

Throughout this blog you'll learn more about me. Hopefully, I'll learn more about myself as well. 3 years ago I started a list. It was kind of like a Bucket List, only I started it before the movie The Bucket List came out AND I started it before the MTV show with the hotty boys appeared on TV. Now, I'm not going to say I was the first one to think of writing a list like this, but I was definitely one of the first in my area of my generation. At this point, it's kind of long...and it keeps growing! I keep saying that one day I am going to start to actually do the things on my list, but I never have. I've crossed off a couple things (in my head, because it has not yet been completely written down) but I haven't actually STARTED working on the list.

I decided I would keep a blog about it (real original right?) simply because I hate diaries and won't have time to write anything down. It's a long list, but I am going to narrow it down to 150 things I really really really want to do. And I am going to do them in 150 weeks. That sounds like a long time to you, oh anonymous reader, but I can not say I will have the list finished anytime sooner. I am only a junior in high school after all, and I will need to be away from my parents to do some of it. 150 weeks is a little under 3 years, meaning I will have this summer, next summer, and some of my college life to work on it.

So reader, count 150 weeks from March 1 and my list WILL be done. And if it's not, well...I'm not sure what I will do. Probably feel really dissapointed in myself. But at least I will have a story to tell when I tell people how useless blogs are!

Since I am so sick today, I will start my list tomorrow. Until then!
